Indian Dancing - The Bharatiya Ashram Indian Dance Group

Saturday 26 June, 7:00, Dundee West Church

Bharatiya Ashram presents as part of the West fest, a Scottish premiere of dance-drama by Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore, Bhanu Singh-er Padabali (Tales of Bhanu Singh). Along with the dance drama, there will be a display of different types of dance shown from Bollywood to classical.

The dance-drama is based on the story of romance between Radha and Krishna. Radha is pining for her Krishna and the dance drama portrays her love and dedication to him. This is a story of emotions and culture blended into one.

The Bharatiya Ashram is an institute of education and culture based in Dundee. They hold several different types of art classes ranging from those in Bellydance to Indian Classical dance. Our Indian Dance group consists of dancers with as little as one year of experience in dance up to our senior-most dancers with over 20 years of experience. The musicians are trained at classes held within the Ashram and some even have 42 years of experience in music. Some of the dancers are trained in the North Indian Classical dance style of Kathak, others in the South Indian Classical dance style of Bharatnatyam.
