
One Day Last Summer - Sarah Gittins |
In collaboration with Dundee University Botanic Garden and WestFest, D-AiR (Dundee Artists in Residence) are curating a week-long Art and Ecology exhibition. Against a backdrop of climate change screenprints by Sarah Gittins, this event will include
- an artists talk,
- a film screening and discussion,
- a guided walk around West End green spaces,
- an introduction to the Transition Towns movement,
- a children's bookmaking workshop,
- and a talk about Patrick Geddes.
The exhibition is intended to act as a catalyst for further reflection and discussion upon issues relating to creativity, community and ecological awareness.

Scheduled events will take place in the Botanic Garden Education Centre with the exception of Wednesday's walk which commences at the bandstand on Magdalen Green.

Mary Elisabeth Arnold - Patrick Geddes: Painter in Green (Talk) |
Valeria Ossio and Yue Xu are currently completing their Masters of Design research at Dundee University, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. Valeria's project, "Spring Up", is an attempt to design compelling ways for home and urban food growing. Yue's research promotes community cohesion in residential areas through the use of urban gardening. As well as leading the guided walk of West End green spaces, Valeria and Yue will also present their research within the context of the exhibition.
During his 30 years as Professor of Botany at University College, Dundee, Patrick Geddes produced a number of innovative schemes for improving Dundee's open spaces, from the grand ornamental park-cum-botanic garden, WEST END PARK, to the open-air working women's club, LAW PARK WAY. This talk will focus on these and other projects in the context of the existing local movement for acquiring and preserving green spaces for the people of Dundee.
Mary Elisabeth Arnold is a writer and artist living in Dundee. She is the author of 'A dream of a bonnier Dundee: Patrick Geddes' designs for public parks and gardens in Dundee'.
